Minor Adventures on the Bus

June 17, 2013 ~ A great letter from Elder Merrill about some of the fun and some of the work he is experiencing in South America:

Heya mom!  How are you? I´m doing well. But like I said, it´s pretty cold now. Let me tell you that I love you too! I just got finished with a pretty full P-day. We were at the beach, and that took a bit of time to actually get out there, but then we got a little bit lost I´m afraid. Took us about an hour to get back to the house, because we were on a bus but then we got off because I realized that it was taking us in a circle, so then I had to figure out where the direction of the house was. When you´re out and about doing things, the day goes by pretty fast. Especially P-day.
That brings me to my next subject, yeah, Elder Barrie left and now I have a new companion, Elder Bernel. He´s Latino, he´s actually from Argentina like my other Latino compànion, Elder Gonzalez. I don´t know how his character is yet, as I´ve known him for 2 days now, but I think that we´ll get along just fine, he´s got a funny side to him I think.
I´ll tell you about someone that we´re teaching then. It´s a couple called Jonathan and Joana. Jonathan is super open and willing to listen and the things that we teach him, he says that it all makes sense. He´s read a little and prayed a little and now our focus is getting him to come to church. If anything, I believe that he can get baptized easily, it just takes a little patience and the spirit. His wife is catholic, she´s willing to listen, but I don´t know if she´ll be as easy as Jonathan. Well, they´re our most hopeful for now, but we´ve got others that we´re teaching too.
I saw the pictures, the house looks different to be sure, but as for really different, well, I can´t remember what it was before correctly, but it´s probably going to look different when I see it in person.  That´s funny about dad´s military exercise. The students didn´t know exactly how to use the equipment then? That´s actually somewhat funny. I can see it now:    ´´okay troops! We made it behind enemy lines, now all we have to do is plant the bomb and run!´´  ´´but, sir? how do we activate the bomb?´´
Awww, I´m soooo jealous that James and Kyle are having a party with everyone in california, but y´know, I´m alright with it, we´ll all chill when I get back. Well, the weather is sunny, but it´s still cold. I just have to survive until August and then it´ll get warmer until summer. I don´t envy another summer here, but it also means that I´ll be going home soon.
Hey, know that I love you lots and that I´m waiting until I can see you again, but I´m doing my best to help the people here and to complete with this marvelous work and wonder. I hope to be able to talk to you all soon, and know that I´m safe and doing good here. I love you lots! See ya around!
